‘For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].’ – 2 Timothy 1:7 AMP
Fear is a satanic spirit that the kingdom of darkness uses to advance it’s sinister and wicked agenda on the earth. This spirit is probably the devil’s most terrible weapon to control and to keep the people of the earth in darkness and bondage. One of its strongest appealing [but deceitful] phrases is ‘fear of the unknown’. In other words, when people do not know the future outcome of a decision or that of a negative event, uncertainty sets in which may lead to fear. Today many people are living in fear of one thing or the other; some are afraid of death, divorce, disappointment and disease, while others are afraid of saying ‘no’ to wrong friends and other lustful pressures of this world. Some people are afraid of renouncing the occult and coming out of darkness to embrace Christ, even though they know in their hearts that satan is deceiving them.

Fear of the Unknown?
‘Therefore, since [these His] children share in flesh and blood [the physical nature of mankind], He Himself in a similar manner shared in the same [physical nature, but without sin], so that through [experiencing] death He might make powerless (ineffective, impotent) him who had the power of death – that is, the devil – and [that He] might free all those who through [the haunting] fear of death were held in slavery throughout their lives.’ – Hebrews 2:14,15 AMP
The devil is an evil genius in keeping people in darkness and slavery to him through fear especially the fear of death, but Jesus Christ has ‘broken his horns, plucked out his teeth and crushed his fangs’ and he cannot make you live in fear if you belong to Christ.
God does not want you to live in fear of anything, not even of the so-called unknown future, and not of the devil! You see, fear never originates from God. And I tell you the truth if you will believe and take a bold step to renounce occultism, darkness, sorcery and that secretive sinful affair, the only thing that will happen to you is that Christ will give you life, light and power over the devil! Countless numbers of people all across the earth have been bold to walk out on satan, so what are you waiting for?
Three Symptoms of the Spirit of Fear
i. Paralysis. The spirit of fear causes people to be paralyzed spiritually and mentally, making them afraid of making decisions or taking steps toward a desire. It projects a [lying] vision of hopelessness and defeats into the minds of its victims thus keeping them paralyzed in certain areas of their lives. Such was the case with the children of Israel and Goliath, whose words caused fear in their hearts and they were unable to fight being already paralyzed in their minds. ‘And the Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man that we may fight together.” When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.’ – 1 Samuel 17:10,11 NKJV.
ii. Torment. The spirit of fear torments people by creating fearful images in their minds, and by causing people to have nightmares. This causes people to lose their sleep, peace, health and joy. In the book of 1st John chapter 4 verse 18, the scriptures say that ‘fear involves torment’. When fear has fully gripped the mind of its victims, it torments them and might bring in other things with it such as depression, suicide or sickness. The Moabites were ‘sick with dread because of the children of Israel’ (See Numbers 22:3).
iii. Unbelief. The presence of fear is also known by a person’s unbelief, whether in God’s power, mercy or goodness. Fear will cause doubt wherever it is entertained. Jesus told Peter to come to Him walking on the sea but Peter allowed fear to grip him (by focusing his attention on the devil’s activities) and Jesus counted it as doubt or unbelief. ‘But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” – Matthew 14:30,31

The Three Antidotes for the Spirit of Fear
‘There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.’ – 1 John 4:18
God’s three antidotes for the spirit of fear are faith, hope and love (See 1 Corinthians 13:13).
- Faith in God’s word and exercising your Christ-given dominion and authority over the evil spirit of fear.
- Hope in God’s wonderful plan and provisions for your future and His readiness to answer you when you pray to Him.
- Loving God with all your heart in response to His love and knowing that His love is dependable and undivorceable.
Wisdom Keys to Effectively Get Rid of the Spirit of Fear
- Abstain from words and sights that fill your mind with fear. The enemy uses the things you see and/or hear against you, this is why you have to recognize the things that make you afraid and deal with them appropriately.
- Build your faith by feeding your mind with the word of God. The more you do this, the less space fear will have in your life.
- Utilize the matchless power in the name of Jesus, remembering that all satanic spirits are subject to His name.
- Exercise your Christ-given authority and do not allow the devil to give you or any of your loved one’s nightmares. You speak against the spirit of fear and you bind it in Jesus name, commanding it to stop harassing and intimidating you.
