Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.’ – Leviticus 19:31.

God does not want His people to have anything to do with these spirits of satan, for they are the ones who feed the ‘information bank’ of the kingdom of darkness (which is made up of foul spirits and humans involved with the occult), thus contributing largely to deception and the destruction of people’s need for the [true] supernatural power of the Living God. The only source of information approved by God [concerning the supernatural] is His Word and the Holy Spirit who is unlimited and know all things.

A certain king of Israel, Ahaziah, sought help from the kingdom of darkness when he sustained an injury, ‘but the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’ (See 2 Kings 1:2-4). The Lord’s prophet goes on to show Ahaziah that the information he was seeking from Ekron’s idol was fully known only to God and tells him he’s going to die and not recover from his injury.

The Operations of Familiar Spirits.

A medium is a human intermediary between dark spirits and people who seek help, information or counsel from darkness; while familiar spirits are demons primarily used to spy or gather [mostly secret] information about people; both individuals and [especially] families. When familiar spirits are at work in a person’s life or family, they search out records of their subjects’ past events and present plans, both the good and bad ones. And more often than not, they use whatever information they have to manipulate or destroy the good while they encourage the bad things in that family or person’s life.

However, these spirits (including satan their master) have limited abilities, do not know the future, and cannot know all things! So, in order to make up for their ignorance, they often mix whatever information they give with many lies.

A True Lesson.

Saul, a king in Israel, goes to consult a medium [who uses familiar spirits] in his time of great desperation. Before this time (while prophet Samuel was still alive), Saul had removed all the mediums and spiritists from Israel. ‘Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” – 1 Samuel 28:3. The next time we read of King Saul, he was in a battle that killed him and his three other sons. God had turned His back on him, and the act of consulting a medium had invited demons into his family! (See 1 Samuel 28:3-25; 31:1-6)

He disobeyed the word of God and he lost his life, his family and his throne in a single day.

‘A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’ – Leviticus 20:27.

Identifying and Dealing Effectively with Familiar Spirits.

Usually, these spirits are the ones used in witchcraft to gather information about a person for the purpose of attack or manipulation. It is also possible for people who are not directly involved with witchcraft or the occult to have familiar spirits. Families who have a history of occultism, sorcery, bloodshed, witchcraft, idolatry or satanism will most likely have familiar spirits operative in their bloodline.

People who consult mediums (channellers, witches, voodoo priests, shamans, warlocks etc.) are ignorantly opening the door of their lives and families to familiar spirits. When these spirits are present in or around a person or family, they open the door to other spirits such as spirits of lust, fear, failure, sickness, vanity, anger, hatred, pride and the likes. Fetish or enchanted items can also invite familiar spirits into your home.

It is also possible for you to be a Church-service-attending Christian and still have a familiar spirit working around your life. However, there is victory, deliverance, and dominion in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!

Your Weapons of Deliverance and Victory.

The knowledge of the word of God is foundational and very important to your deliverance and victory. There is no [real] deliverance or victory without it, hence the need for you to have a very close relationship with your Bible.

1 Thanksgiving.

‘Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.’ – Colossians 1:12.

2 The name of Jesus.

‘Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.” – Luke 10:17.

Wisdom Keys to Effectively Rid Yourself of Unclean Spirits.

1 Look into your life

By the help of the Holy Spirit, search for anytime you [might] have consulted darkness for help, used witchcraft or sorcery, gone through an occult-initiation process etc. If these things are there in your history, you need to first repent by asking God’s forgiveness and cleansing by the blood of the Lamb (See Colossians 1:14). Also, make sure to discard any fetish or magical item in your possession because familiar spirits are always attached to them.

2 Give thanks!

You give thanks to people when they do something valuable that made a difference in your life or a particular situation. In this case, you are giving thanks to the Father God who ‘has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.’ – Colossians 1:13. So give thanks with all your heart.

3 Release the power in the name of Jesus.

Demons are subject to every Christian when they command them in the name of the Lord. Remember the testimony of the Lord’s disciples, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.’ You should renounce any [possible] associations with these spirits and drive them out from your life or home. They will bow in fear and leave without a choice!
