Psalm 1:3 ’He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season…’
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. – Galatians 5:22.
Natural fruit trees are created by God to bear physical fruits. Every tree that was created by God to bear fruit, but does not do so, is regarded as barren or accursed. Just like God made natural fruit trees so that you as a human being can eat and enjoy them, that is the same way God created you and intended you to bear fruit to Him and not barren. However, the fruit that God is looking for in your life is not cashews, apples, oranges, and berries; those are physical fruits. He is looking for spiritual fruit that will have physical expressions in every area of your life.
The Spirit of God is Developing You
Bearing fruit by the Spirit of God is developing the character, nature, and attributes of Jesus in your own life. This fruit of the Spirit, having been formed and developing in you, will affect your conversations, your character, your reaction to people and life’s negative circumstances. Genesis 1:11 ‘Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit after its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.’ Are you a Christian, saved and washed by the blood of Jesus? Then there is a tree planted in you and that tree is called The True Vine, who is the person of Jesus. And He expects you to bear fruit! John 15:1 ‘I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that he may bear more fruit.’ Jesus wants to be seen in you!

Kindness (chrestotes)
The Greek word for kindness, chrestotes, means usefulness that is moral excellence in character or demeanor. It implies being kind and useful to people.
The opposite of kindness is callousness. Callousness is of the devil, those who are acting callously are manifesting the devil’s nature.
Kindness is showing favor, compassion, and respect to people, whether they deserve it or not, and whether they expect it or not. The kindness of Jesus has no sentimental regard for race, tribe, color, ethnicity, gender, political inclinations, nationality, religion, education, financial and social status, and that is the kindness you are expected to manifest as a fruit!
God is delighted to see this fruit in the lives of all who claim to be His children. He wants you to be His instrument to be used to put joy in people’s hearts, smiles on their faces and hope in their circumstances. Have you ever shown this Jesus-kindness to people, especially those who do not, according to you, really deserve it? Pay close attention to what Jesus said: ‘But if you love (only) those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good (only) to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.’ Luke 6:32,33,35.
Walking in the Spirit
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit – Galatians 5:25
Walking in the Spirit requires you to demonstrate kindness. Kindness is a light to the soul of the giver and the receiver. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ – Acts 20:35. Every time you show kindness, you light up a soul. Remember this, Jesus-kindness has no ulterior motive and no selfish gain.
Your delight in showing kindness is that you are demonstrating the nature of Jesus to your environment; which is exactly what happens whenever you exhibit the total fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control).
It is a great blessing when people are joyful or thankful to God because of your kind acts. Who said you need to have a charity organization before you can demonstrate kindness to people? Well, you don’t necessarily need one. The folks who you can demonstrate Jesus-kindness to are all around you; on the streets, in the grocery store, the hairdresser salon and the barbershop, in your workplace, your classroom, in your local church. Jesus didn’t have a charity organization when He was on the earth in the days of His flesh, but He was the kindest man to walk the earth – to the point of giving His life!

Engaging the wisdom of God to bear the fruit of goodness.
…for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. – Matthew 5:45.
- Search your memory to find out the number of times you have shown unbiased kindness to people in the past three months, if you can count less than five times, then make a deliberate resolve to do that. Resolve, by the help of the Spirit, to show kindness to people at least 10 times in the next three months. Keep doing that until you lose count. It must become a lifestyle
- Draw from His grace. If you try to walk and grow in the fruit of the Spirit on your own human ability, you’ll fall flat on your face! It is God’s grace that enables us to live like He wants us to live. You have access to this grace, as a Christian. Keep asking God for grace to grow strong in all the fullness of the fruit of the Spirit.
Are you ready for God to help you bear much fruit?
