Psalm 1:3 ’He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season…’

The nature and character of God are the workings of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian. God is Peace, God has peace and God gives peace.

Love, Joy, Peace; these first ‘three-fruit-pack’ of the Spirit have to do majorly with the Christian cultivating the Divine Nature within himself (See Gal 5:22). One is connected to the other.

Father God is a God of peace. And the God of peace will crush satan under your feet shortly – Romans 16:20.

Jesus His Son is the Prince of Peace. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called…Prince of Peace – Isaiah 9:6

And the Holy Spirit is the administrator of peace in the hearts and lives of God’s people. Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace – Ephesians 4:3.

Peace (Eirene)

But the fruit of the Spirit is… Peace – Galatians 5:22

The Greek word for peace, Eirene, means rest, quietness, serenity and prosperity. It is to be worry-free and trouble-free. The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever – Isaiah 32:17.

All our possessions, jobs, businesses, holidays and daily activities would become frustrating, unfulfilling and stressful if we have no peace to enjoy them, for peace is the prosperity of the soul.

The opposite of peace is strife, trouble, anxiety and confusion. This causes a lot of damage to your spiritual health, mental health and physical health. God doesn’t want that for you. He said in His Word that His peace is able to keep your whole being in perfect health! Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved… – 1 Thessalonians 5:23.

Cultivating this fruit in your life will put your whole life on a healthy balance. This supernatural peace that comes from God through the Holy Spirit does not depend on, neither does it draw its conclusion from, outward circumstances. This is because God-given peace does not have its roots in the intellect or mind of man, but in the Spirit. The more peace we have in our hearts, lives and families, the more peace we will have in our communities and nations.

Walking in the Spirit

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit – Galatians 5:25

Walking in the Spirit is deliberately choosing to cultivate and maintain peace in your heart, home, workplace and relationships. You see, strife, trouble, confusion and anxiety are all trademarks of the devil. Wherever they are present, the enemy likes to use such places as his playground. Remember the Scriptures say that he (the devil) roams about, going to and fro, seeking whom he may devour (See 1 Peter 5:8; Job 1:7), and he actually does that subtly wherever he is accommodated. But when the peace of God is evident in your life, his chances are at an all time low. Actually, zero!

Your choice of walking in the Spirit is your defense from the enemy’s tactics. Whatever storms or circumstances you might be presently suffering from, you must first be at peace before you experience victory. ‘And not in anyway terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God’ – Philippians 1:28. Your display of supernatural peace unsettles the enemy and makes him totally embarrassed that his best weapons and strategies are failing to work on you. Even in the rough places and negative circumstances of life, you must have and retain your peace by all means. The Spirit of God is ever ready to help you bear increasingly the supernatural fruit of peace, because it is very important to your whole life. I am very sure you wouldn’t love to have strife or any kind of trouble in your life, would you?

The Peace of God

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid – John 14:27

The peace of God is supernatural. It is not the kind that the government or any human organization, schemes and strategies can give, because their ‘peace’ will crash under the slightest pressure. ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ – Philippians 4:6,7. On the other hand, the peace of God does not ‘react’ to outward and negative circumstances. Rather, it remains calm and still while trusting God to reveal the way out of that situation. This is the kind of peace that Jesus demonstrated in His earthly days, He never fretted, nor did He worry. He wasn’t anxious, neither was He confused. His was a perfect peace! And He willed His peace to you – and me – when He was preparing to leave the earth. His peace has become your peace; it is your inheritance!

Engaging the wisdom of God to bear the fruit of Peace

But the fruit of the Spirit is… Peace – Galatians 5:22

  1. Avoid anything that makes you fear, anxious, especially words and sights. ‘I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land… – Ezekiel 34:25
  2. Learn to shut yourself away in God’s presence often. You will keep him in perfect peace whose heart is stayed on You, because he trusts in You – Isaiah 26:3.
  3. Learn to pray in other tongues always. ‘For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded in life and peace – Romans 8:6.

Are you ready for God to help you bear much fruit of Gentleness?
