“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the (spoken) word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” Hebrews 11:1-3

Faith is believing what you can’t see with your physical eyes, and what you can’t evaluate or comprehend with your natural mind. It is walking in the realm of God, which is beyond your human senses and natural mind!

Faith is taking God at His word and obeying His word. It is seeing things from God’s perspective and drawing your conclusions based on that, provoking corresponding action on your part.

If you believe in Jesus and are saved by His precious blood, then you have faith. Romans 12:3 states, “…as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” What you need to do is to keep building your faith.

Faith That Moves Mountains

Romans 1:17 says, “For in it, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’”

But why do we need faith? Here are seven reasons.

1) Faith is central and very vital in your walk with God.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

For a fruitful and successful Christian life, you must learn to walk by faith and not depend on your natural senses as the source of all your decisions and conclusions.

2) You need faith to please God.

“By faith Enoch was translated, so that He did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him; for before he was taken, he had this testimony: that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:5,6

God’s ways are higher and far better than the ways of men. He knows what’s best for you and He wants to be the one in charge of your life. It delights His heart when He sees that you have faith in Him, which will compel you to do all He wants.

3) You need faith to live.

“Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:38

To get the best out of life, your faith is key. To always win over unwanted circumstances, you must do so by faith.

4) You need faith to overcome life’s challenges.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—your faith.” 1 John 5:4

Life’s challenges and problems will come to everyone at one point of your life. They may be emotional, financial, academic or marital problems. But the good news is that the solution to them all is your faith!

5) You need faith to overcome Satan, who is your adversary.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith...” 1 Peter 5:8

The devil is a restless, fallen creature, and he delights in the suffering of mankind. He doesn’t have any good thing for you, and your faith is your weapon against him and his works!

6) You need faith to obey God.

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.” Hebrews 11:8

Such is the destiny that God has prepared ahead of you and for you. You’ve never been ‘there’ and it takes faith to obey God as He leads you there!

7) You need faith to understand God.

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14

You can only understand God when your heart is filled with faith. Your natural mind is limited and so it is not dependable in knowing and understanding God, His person, ways, and divine nature.

Building and activating your faith

“And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” Luke 17:5

The way to build your faith is to use the faith you have! Remember, you have a measure of faith imparted to you by God’s Spirit when you gave your heart to the Lord. (See Romans 12:3) But you must begin to use it so it can grow stronger and better.

For instance, your muscles grow and are strengthened by regular use. Here are a few tips to build and activate your faith:

1) Feed your heart with the word of God.

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing (by) the word of God.” Romans 10:17

There is life and power in God’s word. You must be disciplined and consistent in reading God’s word and listening for His voice in your heart.

2) Meditate on God’s word.

“Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97

Meditation is ruminating over God’s word as you read it. Turning scriptures over and over in your heart and pondering over them! That is how you draw faith and understanding from God’s word, thus shattering doubt and unbelief in your mind.

3) Speaking out the word of God habitually.

(See 2 Corinthians 4:13) This makes your faith produce results and brings your desired miracles!

3 Actions to take based on faith

1) Rejoice.

Your faith will not work if you are full of regrets, bitterness, sorrow and complaints! So, rejoice and keep praising God for His word. (See Psalm 119:162)

2) Love.

Faith works by love. God responds to your faith because of His love for you. You must also love, and not harbor hatred, in forgiveness and strife in your heart. (See Galatians 5:6)

3) Be patient.

As you keep believing, meditating, speaking God’s word, with rejoicing and love, be patient as God works out your desire according to your faith! (See Hebrews 6:12).
